McVeigh….very badly missed

Cllr Sof McVeigh took on one of the hardest jobs in local government leadership — thankless, relentless, and permanently under fire. Yet even many of the Conservatives’ fiercest critics would concede one thing: Sof cared deeply about doing the job well…and she did the job brilliantly.

As councillor for Brompton and Hans Town, she built a reputation for tireless commitment. Residents knew that if there was a problem to solve, Sof would already be halfway to fixing it. She embodied the old maxim: if you want something done, ask a busy person.

Let’s all hope she returns to a leadership role soon. With her superb knowledge of housing, Sof will be missed at a local level, but hopefully her talents will be deployed at a national level.

The Dame’s ear remains firmly to the ground — and the mood across the Borough is unmistakable. There is anger, bewilderment by residents who miss a devoted councillor.

Will Plod be talking to Campbell about Grenfell….was she not in the Cabinet?

I believe Campbell was in the cabinet at the Council.

Like Dent Coad, Campbell along with Marshall was on that TMO Board when the Memoli Report was published in 2010 outlining a litany of TMO incompetence, mismanagement, and bullying of tenants. On the balance of probabilities, the Grenfell Tower fire would have been avoided if the TMO had done a “reset” after the publication of this damming report on TMO. Robert Black told the Inquiry that he did not recall reading it. Imagine that! It is a pity that the inquiry did not have his interview with the Kensington local rag in which he commented about the report by saying words to the effect, “Wer have to rebuild trust amongst those who have lost confidence in our work.” Did Black really not remember reading the Memoli Report.

If Campbell, Dent Coad and Marshall had done their jobs as Councillors and TMO Board Members properly and ensured that the culture at the TMO changed, no TMO official would have ever forgotten any utterance in the Memoli Report.
      Shame be on those three!

Long before the fire, the TMO instructed a private firm of Solicitors to write to Grenfell activists threatening them with legal action because the activists were not rolling and being shown that the TMO was boss. Campbell, Dent Coad and Marshall should have accepted responsibility for ensuring things changed at the TMO. Instead, they took the line of least resistance and TMO incompetence and penny pinching ended 72 people’s lives and destroyed the lives of many survivors.

If Dent Coad, Campbell and Marshall were any good they would have made sure that the TMO had that essential reset in 2010 and Grenfell my never have happened.

The rumour is that Campbell promised Bennett( who lost his parliamentary election with a huge fail!) a place in the team and a nice allowance. Johnny, Cem, Emma, Josh are all hard workers but Faulkes and Knight are lightweights and deeply unpopular. Knight is rarely seen

Bennet did not stand as an MP…maybe get your facts right! Knight led scrutiny for ASC and Health the last four years and did a very good job of it, when no one else cares. but yes Sof was well liked.

What a shame. Although a Tory and elected to Brompton & Hans Town, Sof was a breath of fresh air in North Kensington – maybe it helps that she lives very near to Grenfell Tower and cares about her neighbours. She listened to those ‘lower down’ the social order and tried her best to get things done in the housing department. I hope there will be a place for her back in cabinet in future – they need to GET RID of ghastly Liz Campbell. Sof McVeigh should be the leader of RBKC.

What is the Tory equivalent of a good shafting?

Why doesn’t the Tory Party in Kensington “shaft” Campbell? She’s never been up to much. The only thing she is any good at is looking down on people. She looks like she’s either got a bee in her mouth or a dirty smell under her nose. The Labour Party is ruthless when it comes to getting rid of people. The Dent Coad clan shafted an outstanding star in Ian Henderson to shore up the parliamentary position for EDC. They also saw off Councillors Press, Nail and Healey. Press and Nail are now back in the fold doing good work again. Dent Coad was later seen off under Keir’s leadership. I don’t know what the Tory equivalent of a good shafting is but whatever they call it get on with it in the Council.

        Get rid of Campbell.

        Get McVeigh in!

It has been grossly negligent of these Tories to allow Campbell to languish in the role of Leader since the Grenfell Tower fire. She would not command the money she gets from the Council if she were at business instead of playing petty politics.

(She reminds me of a girl who used to serve me in Woolworth’s back in the day. “That’s the wonder of Woolworth’s……….” Those fake pearls were an essential accessory for every good Sloane.

          Get McVeigh is perfectly correct.

……….”These Tories have been grossly negligent” in allowing “Campbell to languish in the role of leader since the Grenfell Tower fire.”

Mrs Thatcher was Prime Minister for over ten years and the Blessed Margaret was told to go, the Tory way, by her cabinet. Elizabeth Campbell has been Leader for nearly nine years, just a whisker shy of Mrs Thatcher’s term in charge, and she is now stale and passed her sell by date. Time for her to be replaced, yes it is.

I don’t like the word “sacked” and I’m sure Dizzy Lizzie would prefer to be replaced instead of “sacked.”

Before anyone says that the late Joan Hanham was leader for twenty years, Lizzie is definitely not of the same calibre as Joan.

Go Sof, go, go, go for it.

I hear Tory Central Office are pleased with Dizzy Lizzie. The Tories were not reduced to a fag end in the recent Council elections by Reform in the way that they were in so many other Councils. They think it is down to Lizzie that Reform were seen off. They are misguided and wrong.

If the Kensington and Chelsea Tory councillors are plotting to do Lizzie down, I am sure that she will do what MacMillan did in 1962 in the so called “Night of the long knives.” She will get rid of all of the disloyal Executive Members in her cabinet.

Compare and contrast Joan Hanham with Elizabeth Campbell.

I hope that the local Con. Association starts telling Tory councillors to get some decent party leadership at the Town Hall. What Tony Blair said about his Party’s “lack of a project to accomplish” applies equally to the direction of the Cons under Lizzy at the Town Hall. The Cons should not be complacent and think that as they lost no seats in the local elections, therefore, they are doing alright. If you put up a trained dog in Kensington and called it Tory people would vote for it.

Compare Dizzy to the late Joan Hanham who led Kensington’s Cons at the Town Hall for twenty years. Joan most certainly had a “project to accomplish” even if she did not define it as a project:-

    (i) she was appalled at the educational standards of the Borough’s schools when the Council took over from the Labour Red Inner London Education Authority. She engaged a man as Director of Education to turn round Kensington’s schools so that Kensington LEA became the best in the Country. The bloke she brought in may not have had a friend in the world once he dealt with the vested interests of teachers but it was “mission accomplished.” Now, that is what I call a “project.”

(ii) she had an interest in the provision of services to elderly. She wanted the best service standards possible for the elderly: the very best care homes for old people that it was possible to provide. She succeeded too. I wrote to her about the plight of an old person when she was leader and she was very concerned when she replied. She was very concerned how uncharitable this old man’s neighbours were being and she took action.

Lizzy is just not of Joan’s worth.

    Dear Dame,

Hornets have a part to play in the demise of Elizabeth Campbell as Leader of the Council.

Hornets played a significant role in seeing off Sir Merrick Cockell as Leader of the Council.

Hornets made light work of the Aristocratic Socialist – Cllr EDC.

Will Hornets see off Elizabeth Campbell in short order too.

I think Kemi Badenoch needs to have a word with the Constituency Party Chairman to expedite Lizzie’s replacement. A Tory MP, once told me that MP’s, who do not toe the line or who underperform, are often told by their Chief Whip, I was having a word with your Constituency Party Chairman and he is not entirely happy with you…………….. The Tories are more efficient and are more stylish when it comes to getting rid of people with a shafting in short order.

? “Put Liz out to grass with panache” ?

I wish the Tories would get on with their stylistic sacking of Campbell. She was the only one who was prepared to take on the poison chalice post Grenfell and now it is time to get someone better and more capable to take over the political helm at the Council.
